Be cunning, play smart, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
