Be clever, play smart, and learn how to play craps the correct way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
